FAQ
Are the temperatures measured?
No. They are estimates calculated from weather data, not sensor readings. GroundSafe shows its estimation accuracy, and when data is missing it says so rather than guessing. Always check the ground, equipment and shade on site before letting children out.
Can I rely on this app alone to decide?
No. GroundSafe is designed to support the judgement of the staff on duty, not to replace it. It is not a safety certification and it does not guarantee that conditions are safe.
Why does the ground get so much hotter than the air?
Dark, dense surfaces absorb sunlight and re-radiate it as heat. On a clear summer afternoon tarmac and rubber safety surfacing can sit far above the air temperature, which is why an air-temperature forecast alone can be misleading.
Where does the weather data come from?
Open-Meteo.com, used under CC BY 4.0. GroundSafe needs no account and no API key of your own.
Does it need an internet connection?
It needs one to fetch a fresh forecast. If the connection fails, the most recent data is shown along with how old it is.
