Why does it show a range instead of a single time?
Because the published guidance is a range. Manufacturers state recoat times against reference conditions, typically around 21C and 50% relative humidity, and the adjustments for other conditions are given as broad bands rather than a formula. Presenting a single precise time would mean inventing precision that does not exist in the source data.
Where do the numbers come from?
The starting point is always the recoat time you read off your own can. RecoatWindow does not ship a product database and never guesses what your paint does. The adjustment bands are shown in full inside the app, on the How estimates work page, so you can see exactly what is being applied.
Why does it refuse to give a number below 10C?
Below about 10C most paints never form a proper film. This is not a matter of waiting longer, so showing a longer time would be misleading. The app says do not recoat instead, and suggests warming the room or waiting for a warmer day.
Why warn me when drying is fast?
In hot, dry air the surface can skin over before the paint has levelled, which leaves brush marks in the finish. Fast drying is not automatically good news, so the app flags it rather than reporting an early finish.
Does it need an internet connection?
Not in indoor mode, which is the default. You set temperature and humidity by hand and the app makes no network requests. Outdoor mode sends a rounded coordinate to fetch current weather, and nothing else.
Is there a subscription?
No. RecoatWindow is a single purchase with everything included. There are no subscriptions, no advertising and no accounts.
